Description

Matzah Nachos with Guacamole is a delightful fusion snack that combines the crispiness of Matzah crackers topped with melted cheese and savory bits, fresh pico de gallo, and creamy homemade guacamole. Perfect for any celebration or casual gathering, this quick recipe brings together cultural flavors in a fun and tasty way with just 15 minutes of prep and cook time.

Ingredients

Matzah Nachos:

  • 1 package MANISCHEWITZ Egg & Onion Matzo
  • 1/2 cup Turkey bits (optional)
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)

Pico de Gallo:

  • 2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp chives
  • 1 tbsp fresh minced basil
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Guacamole:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tbsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • Sour cream, for garnish
  • Sliced olives
  • Chives
  • Minced basil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Pico de Gallo: In a medium bowl, combine sliced tomatoes, garlic powder, oregano, chives, minced basil, lemon juice, olive oil, and salt and pepper. Stir well and allow the tomatoes to marinate while you prepare the rest of the dish.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (204°C) to get ready for baking the matzah nachos.
  3. Assemble Matzah Nachos: Break the matzah sheets into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly on a baking sheet. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the matzah pieces, then add turkey bits if using.
  4. Bake Matzah Nachos: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  5. Make Guacamole: Slice the avocados and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Immediately add lemon juice to prevent browning. Mash the avocado with a fork to your preferred consistency. Season with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and mix well.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Once the matzah nachos are baked, transfer to a serving platter. Top with the prepared pico de gallo and dollop with guacamole. Garnish with sour cream, sliced olives, chives, and minced basil. Serve immediately to enjoy the mix of textures and flavors.

Notes

  • Use fresh herbs for the best flavor in pico de gallo and garnish.
  • Turkey bits are optional and can be omitted for a vegetarian version.
  • Matzo crackers are delicate, handle with care to maintain their crispness.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of chili flakes to pico de gallo or guacamole.
  • Serve immediately after baking to keep the matzo crisp and cheese melty.
