Description
This creamy, rich homemade milk chocolate recipe is delightfully smooth and easily customizable. Made with simple, high-quality ingredients like cocoa powder, milk powder, and coconut oil or cocoa butter, it’s quick to prepare and perfect for gifting, baking, or enjoying as a snack.
Ingredients
Chocolate Base
- ½ cup unsweetened high-quality cocoa powder
- ½ cup powdered sugar (adjust to taste)
- ½ cup full-fat milk powder
- ¼ cup coconut oil or cocoa butter, melted
Flavoring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Double Boiler: Fill a pot with 1 to 2 inches of water and bring it to a gentle simmer. Place a heatproof bowl on top of the pot, ensuring it doesn’t touch the water, to create a double boiler setup.
- Melt the Fat: Add the coconut oil or cocoa butter to the heatproof bowl and stir occasionally until completely melted and smooth.
- Sift Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and milk powder to eliminate lumps and create an even texture.
- Combine Ingredients: Gradually add the sifted dry mix to the melted coconut oil or cocoa butter, stirring constantly to blend until you achieve a smooth, homogenous chocolate mixture. Stir in the vanilla extract if using.
- Mold the Chocolate: Pour the chocolate mixture into a lined mold or tray. Gently tap the mold on the counter to release any trapped air bubbles for a smooth finish.
- Set the Chocolate: Refrigerate the mold for 1 to 2 hours until the chocolate is firm. Before serving, allow it to sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes to soften for the best texture.
Notes
- Use high-quality, unsweetened cocoa powder for the richest flavor.
- Adjust powdered sugar quantity to your preferred sweetness.
- Substitute coconut oil with cocoa butter for a more authentic chocolate flavor and firmer texture.
- Ensure the milk powder is full-fat to maintain creaminess.
- Store homemade chocolate in a cool, dry place or refrigeration if your environment is warm.
- Letting chocolate rest at room temperature before eating improves mouthfeel and flavor release.
