Description
Delightfully sweet and colorful, these White Chocolate Lucky Charms Treats combine the classic marshmallow cereal bar with a luscious white chocolate coating. Perfect for a fun snack or party treat, they feature chewy, crispy Lucky Charms cereal enveloped in melted marshmallows and butter, then dipped in creamy white chocolate for an extra indulgent finish.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 6 cups (210g) Lucky Charms cereal
- 1/4 cup (4 Tbsp; 56g) unsalted butter
- 10-ounce (283g) bag of marshmallows (mini size or regular)
- Optional: pinch of salt
- Two 4-ounce bars (226g total) quality white chocolate, coarsely chopped (or use almond bark)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang to lift out the bars later. Lightly grease the parchment with a nonstick spray or a very thin layer of butter to prevent sticking, then set the pan aside.
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a very large pot over medium heat, melt the butter completely. Add the marshmallows and optional pinch of salt, stirring continuously until the marshmallows have melted into a smooth mixture. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning.
- Combine with Cereal: Fold the Lucky Charms cereal into the melted marshmallow mixture, making sure each piece is well-coated with the marshmallow and butter mixture for even sweetness and texture.
- Transfer and Press: Pour the cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Lightly grease the back of a flat spatula and gently press the mixture evenly into the pan. Avoid packing it down too hard; just ensure it is compacted enough to hold shape.
- Set the Treats: Allow the cereal bars to set at room temperature for at least 2 hours or up to 1 day. If left longer than a few hours, cover the pan tightly to keep moisture out and maintain freshness.
- Cut and Prepare for Coating: Using the parchment paper overhang, carefully lift the set cereal base from the pan and place on a cutting board. Cut into squares or desired bar sizes. Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or silicone mat for dipping.
- Melt White Chocolate: Melt the chopped white chocolate either in a double boiler on the stove or in the microwave, heating in 20-second increments and stirring after each until smooth and fully melted.
- Dip in White Chocolate: Hold each treat by one side and dip the bottom into the melted white chocolate, coating generously. Place the coated treats, chocolate side up, on the prepared baking sheet. Let the chocolate set at room temperature for about 1 hour or refrigerate for 20 minutes to speed up setting.
- Store Properly: Once the chocolate is set, store leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. To prevent sticking, layer treats with parchment or wax paper between them.
Notes
- Using a very light mist of nonstick spray on the parchment paper helps with easy removal of treats from the pan.
- If using almond bark instead of white chocolate, melt it carefully to avoid graininess.
- The pinch of salt in the marshmallow mixture helps balance the sweetness but can be omitted if desired.
- Press the cereal mixture gently to avoid crushing the marshmallow texture, which keeps the treats light and chewy.
- Storing treats with parchment paper between layers prevents them from sticking together.
