Description

A delicious and hearty Turkey Melt featuring layers of turkey, crispy bacon, fresh spinach, tomato, and creamy white cheddar on sourdough bread, perfectly toasted in a skillet with honey mustard and butter for a warm, flavorful sandwich.

Ingredients

Sandwich Ingredients

  • 4 slices sourdough bread (or thick, crusty bread of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons honey mustard
  • 2 slices white cheddar cheese
  • 4 slices deli turkey
  • Thin slices from 1 medium red tomato
  • ½ cup fresh baby spinach
  • 4 strips cooked bacon
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread and Spread Honey Mustard: Place 4 slices of sourdough bread on a flat surface. Divide 2 tablespoons honey mustard into four ½-tablespoon portions and spread evenly on the top side of each slice.
  2. Add Cheese Layers: Cut 2 slices of white cheddar cheese in half, creating 4 slices total. Place one half-slice of cheese on each slice of bread over the honey mustard.
  3. Layer Turkey: Divide the 4 slices of deli turkey into two slices per sandwich. Place turkey slices on top of the cheese on two bread slices.
  4. Add Tomato and Spinach: Divide ½ cup of fresh baby spinach into ¼ cup per sandwich. Layer thin tomato slices and ¼ cup spinach on top of the turkey.
  5. Add Bacon and Cheese: Divide 4 strips of cooked bacon into 2 strips per sandwich. Place bacon on the remaining two cheese-covered bread slices.
  6. Assemble Sandwiches: Close each sandwich by placing the bacon-covered bread slices (with cheese) face-down on the turkey layers. The sandwich layers from bottom to top are: bread, honey mustard, cheese half-slice, turkey, tomato, spinach, bacon, cheese half-slice, honey mustard, bread.
  7. Butter the Outside: Divide 2 tablespoons softened butter into four ½-tablespoon portions and spread one portion on the outside of each side of the sandwich (all four sides).
  8. Toast the Sandwiches: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. When warm, carefully place sandwiches flat in the skillet. Toast the bottom slice for 3 to 4 minutes until golden, then flip the sandwich and toast the other side for another 3 to 4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sandwich is heated through.
  9. Serve: Transfer the warm sandwiches to serving plates and enjoy immediately with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Use thick, crusty bread like sourdough for best texture and to hold all the fillings.
  • Adjust the amount of honey mustard to taste; it adds a sweet tangy flavor that balances the savory ingredients.
  • Ensure bacon is cooked crispy for added crunch in the sandwich.
  • You can substitute white cheddar with your cheese of choice, such as Swiss or provolone.
  • For a crispier sandwich, press down gently on the sandwich with a spatula during toasting.
  • Customize the sandwich by adding avocado or switching turkey with chicken or ham if desired.
