Ingredients
Meat and Vegetables
- 2 lbs ground beef, browned and drained
- 1/2 cup diced celery
- 1 large Vidalia onion, chopped
Dairy & Cheese
- 2 – 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Canned Goods and Condiments
- 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can cream of celery soup
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
Frozen
- 1 (32 ounce) bag frozen tater tots (minis recommended)
Instructions
- Mix soups: In a bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and cream of celery soup thoroughly and set aside. This mixture will create a creamy base for the casserole.
- Prepare beef layer: Place the browned and drained ground beef evenly in a 9×13 inch baking dish, creating the foundational layer of the casserole.
- Add vegetables and seasonings: Sprinkle the diced celery, chopped Vidalia onion, Worcestershire sauce, and 2 to 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the ground beef. This adds flavor and texture.
- Top with soup mixture: Pour the combined soup mixture gently over the layers in the baking dish, making sure it covers everything evenly for a creamy consistency.
- Arrange tater tots: Place the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top of the soup mixture, covering the entire surface. They will crisp up during baking, forming a crunchy topping.
- Bake the casserole: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the assembled casserole uncovered for one hour until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the casserole is bubbly and hot throughout.
Notes
- You can use mini tater tots for a more evenly crispy topping.
- Drain the ground beef well to avoid excess grease in the casserole.
- Shredded cheddar cheese can be adjusted to your taste preference.
- This casserole can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated before baking.
- Leftovers store well in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven or microwave.
