Description

Strawberry Pretzel Salad is a delightful dessert featuring a crunchy pretzel crust, a creamy cream cheese and whipped topping middle layer, and a sweet, fruity strawberry gelatin topping with real strawberries. This easy-to-make dish offers a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and tangy flavors along with a mix of textures, making it a visually appealing and delicious treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • ¾ cup butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

Strawberry Gelatin Topping

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages strawberry flavored Jell-O
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) to prepare for baking the pretzel crust.
  2. Prepare Pretzel Crust: In a mixing bowl, combine crushed pretzels, melted butter, and 3 tablespoons of white sugar. Mix thoroughly until evenly combined, then press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish to form the crust.
  3. Bake Crust: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 8 to 10 minutes until the crust is set and slightly golden. Remove from oven and allow to cool completely.
  4. Make Cream Cheese Layer: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with 1 cup of white sugar using an electric mixer until the mixture is smooth. Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until well blended. Spread this creamy mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust.
  5. Prepare Strawberry Gelatin: Dissolve the strawberry-flavored gelatin packets in 2 cups of boiling water, stirring until completely dissolved. Stir in the frozen strawberries (without thawing) into the warm gelatin mixture and allow it to cool slightly until it begins to thicken but is not set.
  6. Assemble and Chill: Pour the strawberry gelatin and strawberry mixture evenly over the cream cheese layer. Place the assembled dish into the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours or until the gelatin topping is fully set.
  7. Serve: Once set, slice into squares and serve chilled. Enjoy the combination of sweet, salty, creamy, and fruity flavors in every bite!

Notes

  • Press the pretzel crust firmly into the pan to help it hold together after baking.
  • Do not thaw the frozen strawberries before adding to the gelatin to prevent the gelatin from becoming too watery.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to achieve a smooth, creamy layer without lumps.
  • This dessert is best served chilled and within 2 days for optimal freshness.
  • You can substitute fresh strawberries if preferred, but freeze/thaw timing for gelatin may vary.
