Description

This Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle is a luscious, no-bake dessert layered with moist strawberry cake cubes, creamy cheesecake pudding mixed with fresh strawberries, and topped with freshly whipped cream and strawberry slices. It’s perfect for parties or family gatherings, offering a refreshing and indulgent treat that combines classic cheesecake flavors with a light, airy texture.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 strawberry cake (use a cake mix and bake in a 9×13 baking dish for ease, cooled completely)

Cheesecake Mixture

  • 8 oz. cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3.4 oz. package of instant cheesecake pudding mix (unprepared)
  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream (divided)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (divided)
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries (stems removed and sliced, divided)

Whipped Cream Topping

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (remaining portion)
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar (remaining portion)
  • Reserved 1 cup fresh strawberries (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: Remove the cooled strawberry cake from the baking dish and cut it into ¾” to 1” cubes. Set aside for layering.
  2. Mix Cream Cheese and Vanilla: In a large mixing bowl, use a hand mixer to beat together the softened cream cheese and vanilla extract until the mixture is completely smooth with no lumps.
  3. Add Pudding Mix: Beat in the instant cheesecake pudding mix until fully incorporated. The resulting mixture will be thick and slightly lumpy at this stage.
  4. Incorporate Heavy Cream: Slowly drizzle in 1 ½ cups of the heavy whipping cream in small increments (about ⅛ cup at a time), beating continuously on low speed to fully combine before adding more. This helps the mixture become smooth and creamy.
  5. Add Powdered Sugar: Mix in ½ cup of powdered sugar and beat until evenly combined and the mixture is smooth.
  6. Fold in Strawberries: Gently fold in the sliced fresh strawberries, reserving about 1 cup for the top garnish.
  7. Layer the Trifle: In a large serving dish or trifle bowl, layer one-third of the cake cubes on the bottom, followed by half of the strawberry and cream cheese mixture. Repeat with another layer of cake cubes, then the remaining strawberry mixture, and finally finish with the last layer of cake cubes.
  8. Make Whipped Cream: Using a standing mixer with a whisk attachment or a hand mixer, beat the remaining 2 cups of heavy cream until soft peaks begin to form. Gradually add the remaining ¼ cup powdered sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
  9. Top and Decorate: Spoon or pipe generous dollops of the whipped cream over the top layer of cake in the trifle. Arrange the reserved sliced strawberries in the center and add one more dollop of whipped cream topped with a halved strawberry with the stem attached or decorate as desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the cake is completely cooled before cutting to avoid crumbling.
  • For best results, chill the trifle for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
  • Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the most vibrant flavor and color.
  • This recipe can be made a day ahead and kept covered in the refrigerator.
  • Substitute heavy whipping cream with coconut cream to make it dairy-free but note it will alter texture and flavor.
