Description
Spicy Sesame Ground Beef Bowls are a quick and flavorful meal combining tender ground beef with a spicy, sweet, and savory sesame sauce. Ready in just 25 minutes, this dish is perfect for busy weeknights and pairs wonderfully with rice, pasta, potatoes, or fresh lettuce for a satisfying bowl.
Ingredients
Sauce Ingredients
- ¼ cup coconut sugar
- ½ cup coconut aminos
- 2 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
- ½ tsp ground ginger
Beef and Aromatics
- 1 tsp olive oil
- 1 tsp butter
- 3 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced (reserve some for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Aromatics: Mince the garlic cloves finely and thinly slice the green onions, saving a few slices for garnishing later.
- Make Sauce Mixture: In a glass measuring cup or bowl, combine the coconut sugar, coconut aminos, toasted sesame oil, crushed red pepper flakes, and ground ginger. Whisk together thoroughly and set aside.
- Heat Fat in Skillet: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the butter and olive oil. Once the fats are hot and melted, add the minced garlic and sauté, stirring constantly, for about one minute until fragrant and softened but not browned.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a spatula and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through with no pink remaining, about 6-8 minutes.
- Add Sauce and Green Onions: Pour the prepared sesame sauce into the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir to coat the meat evenly. Add the sliced green onions (except for those reserved for garnish) and stir again to combine.
- Simmer and Serve: Let the mixture simmer for 2-5 minutes so the flavors meld together and the sauce thickens slightly. Serve warm over your choice of cooked rice, pasta, potatoes, or fresh lettuce leaves. Garnish with the reserved green onion slices.
Notes
- Adjust crushed red pepper flakes to control the heat level to your preference.
- This recipe pairs well with steamed jasmine rice or cauliflower rice for a lower-carb option.
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of sesame seeds on top as garnish.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat quickly in a skillet or microwave.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein alternative.
