Ingredients
For the Smash Burgers
- 1 pound fresh ground beef
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 6 6-inch flour tortillas
- 6 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Toppings
- shredded lettuce
- sliced pickles
- diced tomatoes
- ½ cup diced onions (optional)
Smash Burger Sauce
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons finely diced pickles (can substitute relish)
- 1 tablespoon pickle juice (can substitute vinegar; use less for thicker sauce)
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- ¼ teaspoon yellow mustard
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder (can substitute fresh minced onion)
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the cooking surface: Heat a griddle or large nonstick skillet over medium heat to prepare for cooking the smash burger tacos.
- Divide and form meat balls: Portion the ground beef into 6 equal balls, ensuring even cooking for each taco patty.
- Prepare burger toppings: Chop your desired burger toppings such as diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, pickle slices, and optional diced onions. Set aside for assembly.
- Mix the smash burger sauce: In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, finely diced pickles, ketchup, yellow mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and pickle juice. Stir until well blended and set aside.
- Form and season the patties on tortillas: Place one tortilla on a plate, set a meat ball on top, and use your hands or back of a spoon to press the meat evenly to cover the entire tortilla surface. Season the meat generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Cook the meat side down: Transfer the tortilla with the pressed meat onto the heated griddle, meat side down. Cook for about 3 minutes until the bottom is crispy and the tortilla begins to crisp as well.
- Flip and add cheese: Flip the tortilla carefully, place a slice of sharp cheddar cheese over the cooked meat, and cook the other side for an additional 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese has melted and the tortilla is crisp.
- Assemble and serve: Remove from heat, top with your prepared toppings and a drizzle of the smash burger sauce. Serve immediately while warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- You can customize toppings according to your preference—add jalapeños, onions, or your favorite condiments.
- If you prefer a thicker smash burger sauce, reduce the amount of pickle juice.
- Using a griddle helps achieve an even crispy crust on the tortilla and meat, but a large nonstick skillet works equally well.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute the flour tortillas with gluten-free tortillas.
- These tacos are best enjoyed fresh and hot to maintain the crispy textures.
