This easy-to-make dish delivers all the classic smash burger flavors in a convenient bowl format, perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner for four.

Ingredients

Potatoes & Fries

  • 1 (20-oz) package frozen French fries OR 16 oz baby potatoes, halved
  • 2 teaspoons avocado oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Meat Mixture

  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Smash Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon Cajun seasoning mix
  • A few tablespoons of dill pickle juice from the jar (up to ¼ cup, to thin sauce)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Toppings

  • 6 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
  • 1½ cups halved cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup diced dill pickles
  • ½ cup diced red onion
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Cook Fries or Potatoes: Add frozen French fries to the air fryer basket or spread baby potatoes halved in an even layer on a baking sheet. Season with salt and pepper. Air fry fries according to package directions or air fry potatoes at 400°F for 15 minutes, shaking halfway through. Alternatively, roast potatoes in the oven at 400°F for 20-25 minutes until golden and crisp.
  2. Sauté Onions: While potatoes cook, heat a large skillet over medium heat and add avocado oil. Once hot, add diced yellow onion and cook for about 2 minutes until softened.
  3. Cook Meat Mixture: Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet with onions. Sprinkle in onion powder, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, garlic salt, and black pepper. Break up the meat with a spoon and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until fully cooked and crumbled.
  4. Make Smash Sauce: In a bowl, whisk together Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, and Cajun seasoning. Thin sauce with a few tablespoons of dill pickle juice to desired consistency. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Assemble Bowls: Divide fries or roasted potatoes among 4 serving bowls. Top each with the cooked meat mixture and shredded cheddar cheese (optional but recommended).
  6. Add Fresh Toppings & Sauce: Layer each bowl with shredded iceberg lettuce, halved cherry tomatoes, diced dill pickles, and diced red onion. Drizzle generously with the homemade smash sauce.
  7. Serve Warm: Enjoy your Smash Burger Bowls immediately while warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • You can choose between frozen fries or fresh baby potatoes depending on your preference and convenience.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of dill pickle juice in the sauce to get your preferred tangy drizzle consistency.
  • The recipe works well with either ground beef or ground turkey for a leaner option.
  • Adding shredded cheddar cheese is optional but highly recommended for authentic smash burger flavor.
  • To make it gluten free, verify that Worcestershire sauce and other condiments used are gluten free.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer, baking the potatoes in the oven works perfectly fine.
