Description

This Slow Cooker BBQ Beef Brisket recipe provides tender, flavorful brisket cooked low and slow with a blend of spices, liquid smoke, and tangy barbecue sauce. Perfect for an effortless meal that yields juicy, shredded beef with minimal prep and a rich smoky flavor.

Ingredients

Beef Brisket

  • 2 to 3 pounds beef brisket

Spice Rub

  • 1 Tablespoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Cooking Liquids

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spice Rub: Combine dried thyme, paprika, black pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground cumin in a small bowl. Rub this spice mixture all over the top of the beef brisket thoroughly to ensure even flavor infusion.
  2. Cook the Brisket: Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of a large 7-quart slow cooker. Place the spice-rubbed brisket into the water. Pour liquid smoke flavoring and Worcestershire sauce evenly over the brisket. Cover with the lid and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours until the meat is tender and easily shredded.
  3. Remove and Shred the Brisket: Carefully take the brisket out of the slow cooker onto a large platter. Remove and discard any fat from the bottom of the brisket, which should skim off easily. Shred the meat into bite-sized pieces using forks or your hands.
  4. Add Barbecue Sauce and Finish Cooking: Return the shredded brisket to the slow cooker. Pour the entire bottle of barbecue sauce over the shredded meat and gently stir to coat evenly. Cover with the lid and cook for an additional 30 minutes or until the sauce is heated through.
  5. Serve: Serve the warm barbecue brisket immediately. This dish pairs well with classic sides like coleslaw, baked beans, or cornbread for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • For best results, choose a brisket with good marbling to ensure juicy meat.
  • Cooking times may vary based on slow cooker model; check tenderness at 8 hours.
  • You can adjust the level of smokiness by varying the liquid smoke amount to taste.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for 3-4 days and freeze nicely for up to 3 months.
  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper to the spice rub.
