Description

This Slow Cooker Apple Pear Sauce is a comforting, naturally sweetened fruit sauce made from fresh apples and pears simmered gently with cinnamon and coconut palm sugar. Perfect as a wholesome snack, dessert topping, or breakfast addition, the slow cooking process brings out the natural flavors while creating a warm, chunky or smooth sauce based on your preference.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 10 apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 8 pears, cored and diced (skin can be left on or off)

Spices and Sweeteners

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon coconut palm sugar

Liquids

  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit: Peel, core, and chop the apples into larger chunks. Core the pears and chop them into pieces similar in size to the apples. You can keep the skins on the pears and apples if you prefer for added texture and nutrients.
  2. Combine ingredients in slow cooker: Add the diced apples and pears into the slow cooker. Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and coconut palm sugar evenly on top. Pour in the 1/2 cup of water to help with the cooking and prevent sticking. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Cook the fruit sauce: Set the slow cooker to low and cook for 8 hours or on high for 4 hours. Avoid opening the lid during cooking as this lets heat escape and can increase cooking time.
  4. Check and mash the sauce: Once cooking is complete, use a fork to mash the apples and pears in the slow cooker to create a chunky sauce. For a smoother texture, transfer the mixture to a blender and blend until you reach your desired consistency.

Notes

  • Leaving the skins on the pears and apples adds extra fiber and nutrients.
  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less coconut palm sugar or substitute with honey or maple syrup if preferred.
  • This sauce can be served warm or chilled and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Use the sauce as a topping for pancakes, oatmeal, yogurt, or enjoy it as a healthy snack.
