Description

This single-serving Apple Crumble is a cozy, comforting dessert perfect for one. Featuring tender cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, crumbly topping baked to golden perfection, this easy recipe is finished with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the ultimate indulgence. Ideal for a quick solo treat or a comforting after-dinner dessert.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 1 Jazz apple (or Honeycrisp), chopped into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp raw sugar
  • 1 tsp raw sugar (additional)
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Crumble Topping

  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp raw sugar
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 1.5 tbsp melted butter

To Serve

  • 1 large scoop vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Prep the Filling: Chop one Jazz or Honeycrisp apple into small cubes. Place the apples in a ramekin or small baking dish. Add 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon raw sugar, 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice. Mix well until the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
  2. Make the Crumble: In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons flour, 2 tablespoons raw sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon. Add 1.5 tablespoons melted butter and gently mix with your hands until small clumps form, resembling damp sand that holds together but remains crumbly.
  3. Layer It Up: Evenly spoon the crumble topping over the apple mixture in the ramekin. It’s okay if some apples are visible; this topping is meant to be light and crumbly.
  4. Bake It Off: Place the ramekin in a toaster oven preheated to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30-35 minutes until the crumble is golden brown and the edges bubble. If using a conventional oven, bake for 35-40 minutes. If the topping looks pale after the initial baking time, continue to bake a few more minutes to achieve a golden crust.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Allow the apple crumble to cool slightly before topping with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. For a unique twist, try serving with rose saffron kulfi instead.

Notes

  • Use a Jazz or Honeycrisp apple for a balance of tartness and sweetness that works well in the filling.
  • Adjust the sugar amount based on your apple’s sweetness.
  • For best results, melt the butter before mixing it into both filling and topping to ensure even coating.
  • You can substitute the vanilla ice cream with kulfi or any other frozen dessert of your choice.
  • The crumble topping texture should be crumbly but slightly damp to hold together during baking.
  • Check oven temperatures as toaster ovens can vary; keep an eye on the crumble to avoid burning.
