Description

This Sheet Pan Pizza recipe is an easy and delicious homemade pizza perfect for a quick weeknight dinner. Featuring a simple yeast dough, tangy pizza sauce, melted mozzarella, and classic pepperoni, it’s baked on a sheet pan for a crispy, golden crust and gooey cheese topping. Ready in under an hour, it’s great for pizza lovers craving a warm, satisfying meal made from scratch or with store-bought dough.

Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour (plus more for kneading)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110-115°F)

For the Pizza

  • 1 – 1.2 pounds pizza dough (store bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for the pan)
  • 2/3 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 4 oz pepperoni
  • Parmesan cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt until well combined.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients: Pour in the olive oil and warm water. Mix until a shaggy dough ball forms, ensuring the ingredients come together.
  3. Knead the Dough: If using a stand mixer, attach the dough hook and mix until smooth and elastic, about 3 minutes. If mixing by hand, transfer dough to a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, adding flour if needed to prevent sticking. Cover with a towel and let the dough rise for 15 minutes to relax the gluten.
  4. Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 450°F (232°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to create a crispy crust.
  5. Prepare the Sheet Pan: Coat a quarter sheet pan (13” x 9”) thoroughly with olive oil, making sure to cover all edges and corners to prevent sticking.
  6. Shape the Dough: Place the risen dough onto the oiled sheet pan and gently stretch it out to fill the pan. If the dough resists stretching and shrinks back, let it rest for 5 minutes and try again to allow the gluten to relax.
  7. Add Toppings: Evenly spread the pizza sauce over the stretched dough. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly on top, followed by the pepperoni slices.
  8. Bake the Pizza: Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and bake for 11-13 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust has turned golden brown.
  9. Finish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes. If desired, sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Allow the dough to rest if it resists stretching to make shaping easier.
  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor if adding as a topping.
  • Store-bought dough can be used to save time, but homemade dough adds a fresher taste.
  • For a crispier crust, you can pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Use a pizza stone or baking steel if you want a different texture, but adjust baking time accordingly.
