Ingredients
Meat and Seasonings
- 2 lbs Ground Beef
- 2 Packets Taco Seasoning
- 2 tbsp Butter (melted)
Base and Layers
- 10 large Flour Tortillas
- 6 Tostada Shells
- 1 jar Nacho Cheese Sauce
- 3/4 cup Sour Cream
Fresh Toppings
- 1 cup Diced Tomatoes (seeds removed)
- 4 cups Shredded Iceberg Lettuce
- 1 bunch Green Onions (sliced thin)
- 16 oz Shredded Cheese (Mexican Blend recommended)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the crunchwrap.
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef along with the two packets of taco seasoning. Stir occasionally until fully cooked and seasoned, then drain off any excess fat. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Prepare the Sheet Pan: Take a large sheet pan and brush the bottom and sides thoroughly with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. This helps prevent sticking and adds flavor.
- Arrange the Tortillas: Use eight flour tortillas for the base layer. Place six tortillas around the edges of the sheet pan with about half of each hanging over the sides to enable folding later. Then fill the middle gap with the remaining two tortillas.
- Add Cheese Sauce and Beef Layers: Pour the jar of room temperature nacho cheese sauce over the arranged flour tortillas and spread evenly. Next, spread the cooked ground beef layer over the cheese sauce.
- Add Sour Cream and Tostadas: Place 2 tablespoons of sour cream on each tostada shell, then lay all six sour cream-topped tostadas over the ground beef layer evenly.
- Top with Fresh Ingredients and Cheese: Sprinkle the diced tomatoes, thinly sliced green onions, and the shredded Mexican blend cheese over the tostada layer to complete the crunchwrap filling.
- Add Top Tortillas and Fold: Place the remaining two flour tortillas in the center of the mixture, slightly overlapping. Carefully fold the tortillas hanging over the edges towards the center to cover the tortillas in the middle. Brush the top with the remaining melted butter.
- Press and Weight the Crunchwrap: Place a second sheet pan on top of the filled sheet pan to press the layers evenly. You can add a baking dish or a small cast iron pan on top of the second pan to increase weight for even pressing.
- Bake and Broil: Bake the crunchwrap covered in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then remove the cover and broil for 5 minutes to achieve a golden, crispy top, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the crunchwrap from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing into pieces. Serve with shredded lettuce, extra sour cream, or your favorite taco sauces. Enjoy your sheet pan crunchwrap supreme!
Notes
- Be sure to drain excess fat from the cooked ground beef to avoid a greasy crunchwrap.
- Using room temperature nacho cheese sauce allows for easier spreading over the tortillas.
- If you prefer extra crispiness, extend the broiling time in 1-2 minute increments, watching closely.
- This recipe can be customized by adding jalapeños, olives, or substituting beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
