Description

These Roasted Cabbage Steaks offer a simple, flavorful way to enjoy cabbage with a crispy outside and tender center. Seasoned with garlic, paprika, and olive oil, they make a delicious and healthy side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 2 small cabbage heads

Seasonings

  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (or to taste)
  • 2 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tbsp. garlic powder
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Cut the Cabbage: Remove the stems from the cabbage heads, then cut each head in half, and then in half again. You should end up with four thick slices of cabbage, each approximately ¾ to 1 inch thick.
  2. Place on Parchment: Arrange the cabbage steaks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between the slices to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season the Cabbage: Brush each cabbage steak thoroughly with olive oil. Generously sprinkle salt, garlic powder, and paprika over them.
  4. Flip the Cabbage: Turn the cabbage steaks over and repeat the oil brushing and seasoning on the other side. If desired, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to each steak for a bit of heat.
  5. Bake the Cabbage: Place the baking sheet in a preheated oven at 400°F (204°C) and roast for about 25 minutes. The cabbage steaks are done when the edges are crispy and browned, and the centers are tender. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use small cabbage heads to ensure manageable size and thickness for roasting.
  • Adjust salt and spices to taste; the paprika adds a smoky depth but can be reduced if preferred.
  • For extra crispiness, flip the cabbage steaks halfway through baking.
  • This dish is naturally vegan and gluten-free.
