Description
A warm and flavorful Roasted Apple Cranberry Relish, perfect for holiday meals or as a tasty accompaniment to poultry and pork dishes. This relish combines fresh cranberries and tender apples roasted with brown sugar and aromatic spices to create a thick, jam-like condiment bursting with seasonal flavors.
Ingredients
Fruit
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- 3 medium apples (about 1.5 lbs.), peeled, cored, and cubed
Seasonings
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare fruit: Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Wash the cranberries and place them in a large 8×13-inch casserole dish (2-3 quart capacity). Peel, core, and cut the apples into cubes roughly the same size as the cranberries, then add them to the dish.
- Mix ingredients: Add the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and lemon juice to the fruit in the casserole dish. Toss everything together gently until the ingredients are evenly combined.
- Roast the relish: Place the dish in the preheated oven and roast the fruit mixture for 45-55 minutes. Stir once at 30 minutes and again at 45 minutes to ensure even cooking and to check the consistency. The relish is done when it reaches a thick, jam-like texture.
- Adjust and serve: Taste the relish and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding extra brown sugar or lemon juice if desired. Serve the relish warm or refrigerate it for later use.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for balance or sweeter varieties for a milder taste.
- The relish can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Stirring during roasting helps prevent burning and promotes even cooking.
- This relish complements turkey, chicken, pork, or vegetarian dishes.
