Description

A comforting and easy-to-make twist on traditional lasagna using fresh cheese ravioli layered with savory Italian sausage and marinara sauce, topped with a blend of Italian cheeses and baked to bubbly perfection.

Ingredients

Preparation

  • Nonstick cooking spray

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage
  • 1 (24-ounce) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (20-ounce) package fresh cheese ravioli (such as Buitoni or Rana)
  • 1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the sausage: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Stir regularly until the sausage is fully cooked, about 8 minutes. Pour in the marinara sauce and continue cooking until heated through, approximately 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Layer the ingredients: Spread half a cup of the sausage mixture evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange one-third of the fresh ravioli in a single layer over the sauce. Repeat this layering two more times, ending with a final layer of the sausage sauce on top. Sprinkle the shredded Italian cheese blend evenly over the top layer.
  4. Bake the lasagna: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is lightly browned and the sauce is bubbling.

Notes

  • Use fresh cheese ravioli for the best texture and flavor balance in this dish.
  • Feel free to swap mild Italian sausage for spicy if you prefer a bit of heat.
  • Letting the sausage and sauce cool slightly before layering helps prevent ravioli from sticking or becoming mushy.
  • If you want a crispier top layer, broil the lasagna for 1-2 minutes after removing the foil, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • This dish serves 6 to 8 people and pairs well with a simple salad or garlic bread.
