Description

This easy pumpkin dessert combines canned pumpkin, evaporated milk, and yellow cake mix to create a moist and flavorful fall treat. Topped with walnuts and baked to perfection, it’s perfect served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin puree
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated milk
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

Topping and Cake Mix

  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package yellow cake mix
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, white sugar, eggs, and pumpkin pie spice. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Pour Pumpkin Mixture: Pour the blended pumpkin mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out smoothly.
  4. Add Cake Mix Layer: Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the pumpkin mixture, creating a uniform layer.
  5. Top with Butter and Walnuts: Drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix layer, then evenly sprinkle the chopped walnuts on top.
  6. Bake the Dessert: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Serve: Let the dessert cool completely in the baking dish before cutting it into 24 squares. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • For a flavor variation, substitute the yellow cake mix with spice cake mix.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce over each serving for an added treat.
  • Ensure the dessert is fully cooled before cutting for clean squares.
