Description

These Puffy Tacos are a delightful twist on the classic taco, using flaky puff pastry for the perfect crispy shell filled with seasoned ground beef and melted cheese. Ready in just 30 minutes, they are a crowd-pleasing appetizer or main dish that combines savory flavors with easy preparation.

Ingredients

Meat Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 packet taco seasoning

Puffs

  • 2 sheets puff pastry (cut into 9 squares each)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the tacos.
  2. Prepare Pastry: Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package instructions. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for easy cleanup.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef thoroughly, breaking it apart as it cooks. Once browned, drain any excess fat to keep the filling from being greasy.
  4. Simmer Filling: Add salsa, water, and taco seasoning to the cooked beef. Stir well to combine all ingredients and let it simmer gently for about five minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the mixture to thicken slightly.
  5. Prepare Pastry Squares: Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheets and slice each sheet into 9 equal squares, making a total of 18 squares.
  6. Assemble Tacos: Spoon a good amount of the taco meat mixture into the center of each pastry square. Top each with a couple of tablespoons of shredded cheese to add rich flavor and gooey texture.
  7. Seal Pastry: Fold the pastry squares by bringing opposite corners together and pinch the edges carefully to seal in the filling, creating a taco shape. Place the formed tacos on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake: Bake the tacos in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before slicing to prevent cracking.
  • For a spicier kick, add chopped jalapenos to the meat mixture.
  • These tacos are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven for maximum crispiness.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken to make a lighter version.
  • Leftover tacos can be reheated in the oven to restore crispness, avoiding the microwave to prevent sogginess.
