Description

These homemade protein bars are packed with wholesome ingredients like oats, peanut butter, banana, and protein powder, making them a perfect nutritious snack or post-workout fuel. Easy to prepare without any baking, they combine natural sweetness with a satisfying chewy texture, customizable with your favorite mix-ins such as dried fruits, nuts, or chocolate chips.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats (135 g)
  • 3/4 cup peanut butter or favorite nut butter or sunflower butter (180 g)
  • 1 banana, mashed (120 g)
  • 1/3 cup honey, agave, or real maple syrup (110 g)
  • Pinch of salt

Additional Nutritional Enhancers

  • 1/2 cup ground flax seed (55 g)
  • 1 cup protein powder (120 g)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (10 ml)

Mix-ins (Optional)

  • 3/4 cup chopped dates, dried fruit (blueberries, cranberries, or raisins), mini chocolate chips, unsweetened coconut flakes, or nuts

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, stir together the oats, peanut butter, mashed banana, honey, salt, ground flax seed, protein powder, vanilla extract, and your chosen mix-ins until the mixture is thoroughly combined. The batter should be soft but not dry or crumbly. If needed, add a small splash of water or milk, or an extra drizzle of honey to achieve the right consistency.
  2. Form the Bars: Firmly press the mixture into an 8×8 inch pan, ensuring an even and compact layer. This creates a solid base so the bars hold their shape once refrigerated.
  3. Chill and Set: Refrigerate the pan for at least 1 hour to allow the mixture to firm up completely, making it easier to cut into bars.
  4. Cut and Store: After chilling, cut into 16 bars and store them in the refrigerator in an airtight container. They will stay fresh for up to 2 weeks, perfect for grab-and-go snacks.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar and ensure your protein powder is plant-based.
  • Adjust the amount of honey or sweetener based on your preference for sweetness.
  • You can swap peanut butter for any nut or seed butter of your choice to change the flavor profile.
  • If the mixture is too sticky, chill it briefly before pressing into the pan for easier handling.
  • Feel free to customize the mix-ins to your liking, but keep the total quantity about 3/4 cup to maintain the right texture.
