Description

Pizza Mountain Pie is a quick and delicious campfire treat featuring a crispy, buttery bread exterior packed with classic pizza flavors such as mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, and pizza sauce. Made using a mountain pie maker over hot coals, this recipe delivers a golden, toasted sandwich reminiscent of a pizza but with a fun, handheld twist perfect for outdoor cooking or a comforting snack.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 6-8 slices pepperoni

Instructions

  1. Butter the Bread: Butter one side of both slices of bread thoroughly, spreading the butter all the way to the edges to prevent sticking during cooking.
  2. Place Bread in Pie Maker: Position the buttered side of one bread slice down inside the mountain pie maker.
  3. Spread Pizza Sauce: Evenly spread the pizza sauce over the bread slice that’s inside the pie maker.
  4. Add Cheese: Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese in the center of the bread and gently spread it toward the edges, leaving a small border to avoid spilling.
  5. Layer Pepperoni: Arrange 6-8 pepperoni slices on top of the cheese layer.
  6. Top with Second Bread Slice: Place the second slice of bread on top with the buttered side facing up.
  7. Seal the Pie: Press the top of the pie iron down firmly, ensuring the bread fits entirely inside the iron. Close and clip the pie iron securely.
  8. Cook Over Hot Coals: Place the pie iron onto hot coals. Let it cook for about one minute, then carefully open to check the browning. Once the first side is golden, flip the pie iron to toast the other side until golden brown.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the pie from the iron and transfer it onto a plate. Allow it to cool for 1 to 5 minutes before serving to enjoy a perfect melty, crispy pizza pie.

Notes

  • Ensure the bread is well buttered on the outside to create a crispy, golden crust.
  • Cooking times may vary depending on heat intensity of the coals, so check frequently to avoid burning.
  • You can customize toppings with your favorite pizza ingredients like vegetables or different cheeses.
  • Be careful when opening the pie iron as steam and heat can cause burns.
