Description

Parmesan Roasted Green Beans are a quick and delicious side dish featuring tender green beans roasted to perfection with garlic, olive oil, crispy panko breadcrumbs, and a golden layer of grated parmesan cheese. This recipe delivers a wonderful combination of flavors and textures, making it a perfect complement to any meal.

Ingredients

Green Beans and Seasoning

  • 500 g / 1 lb green beans, ends trimmed
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

For Roasting

  • 2 tbsp olive oil, separated
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven or Broiler: Preheat your oven to 220°C (425°F) or set the broiler/grill on high with the rack approximately 30 cm (12 inches) from the heat source to ensure even roasting.
  2. Toss Green Beans with Seasoning: Place the trimmed green beans on a baking tray. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, then add the finely chopped garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together to coat the beans evenly.
  3. Arrange Beans on Tray: Line up the green beans in two neat rows on the tray, placing them close together for even roasting and topping distribution.
  4. Add Breadcrumbs and Parmesan: Sprinkle the panko breadcrumbs evenly over the arranged beans, followed by an even layer of grated parmesan cheese. Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the top to enhance browning and flavor.
  5. Roast or Broil: Roast in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or broil/grill for about 8 minutes, until the parmesan topping is golden and crispy.
  6. Serve: Use a spatula or egg flip to transfer the roasted green beans to a serving platter immediately and enjoy while hot.

Notes

  • Note 1: Panko breadcrumbs provide a light, crispy texture; you may substitute with regular breadcrumbs if needed.
  • Note 2: Freshly grated parmesan gives the best flavor and melting properties compared to pre-grated varieties.
  • For a nuttier flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper or a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
