Description
This Pan Fried Gnocchi recipe features crispy golden gnocchi sautéed in olive oil with a fragrant touch of garlic, finished with parmesan, fresh parsley, and bright lemon zest for a delightful and easy-to-make Italian-inspired side or main dish.
Ingredients
Gnocchi and Cooking
- 3 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 (16 oz) pkg shelf stable gnocchi
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tsp minced garlic
Finishing Ingredients
- 1/4 cup finely shredded parmesan cheese
- 3 Tbsp minced parsley
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Heat olive oil in a 12-inch non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering to prepare for frying.
- Cook the gnocchi: Add the gnocchi to the hot oil, season with salt and black pepper. Cook, tossing occasionally, for about 5 minutes until the gnocchi are golden brown in spots and tender on the inside.
- Add garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet, toss with gnocchi, and cook just briefly until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning the garlic.
- Finish with cheese and herbs: Transfer the gnocchi to a serving dish. Toss with finely shredded parmesan cheese, minced parsley, and lemon zest to evenly coat and add fresh flavor.
- Serve: Serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side for spritzing to add a bright, citrusy finish to the dish.
Notes
- Use shelf-stable gnocchi or fresh gnocchi depending on availability.
- Be careful not to overcook the garlic after adding it, as it can become bitter.
- For a richer flavor, you can use a mix of olive oil and butter for frying.
- Serve as a side dish or add sautéed vegetables or protein to make a complete meal.
- Lemon zest and wedges add freshness; you can adjust the amount to your taste.
