Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- ½ cup old fashioned oats
- ½ cup milk
- ½ Tbsp brown sugar
- ⅛ tsp cinnamon
- ½ Tbsp chia seeds
- Pinch of salt
Variation 1 (Blueberry Peanut Butter)
- 1 tsp blueberry jam
- 1 Tbsp peanuts
- 1 Tbsp crunchy peanut butter
- A few blueberries, if desired
Variation 2 (Raspberry Dark Chocolate)
- 1 tsp red raspberry jam
- 1 Tbsp dark chocolate chips
- A few raspberries, if desired
Variation 3 (Walnut Banana)
- 1 Tbsp walnuts
- ⅓ of a banana, diced
Instructions
- Mix Ingredients. Combine old fashioned oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, chia seeds, and salt in an 8 oz. Mason jar to ensure the dry ingredients are well distributed.
- Add Milk. Pour in the milk over the dry ingredients to start the soaking process.
- Stir or Shake. Stir the mixture thoroughly or screw on the lid and shake the jar well to evenly mix all ingredients, ensuring there are no clumps of chia seeds or brown sugar.
- Screw On Lid. Secure the lid tightly on the Mason jar to prevent spills and allow for refrigeration.
- Chill. Place the jar in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 15 minutes; however, for best results, refrigerate for 8 hours or up to 12 hours to allow the oats to fully soften and flavors to meld.
- Serve with Variations. Before eating, add any desired toppings or variations such as jams, nuts, fruits, or peanut butter to customize your overnight oats.
Notes
- Use old fashioned oats for proper texture; instant oats will result in a mushier consistency.
- Milk can be substituted with any plant-based milk to suit dietary preferences.
- Chia seeds help thicken the mixture and add fiber and nutrients.
- The recipe can be prepared the night before for a grab-and-go breakfast.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar or jam.
- Store refrigerated portions in sealed containers for up to 3 days.
