Ingredients
Base Layer
- 1 package yellow cake mix
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Cream Cheese Topping
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 eggs
- 3 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 13×9-inch baking pan with butter or non-stick spray to ensure the cake removes easily after baking.
- Make Base Layer: In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, two eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well until a thick batter forms. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to create the base layer.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, the remaining two eggs, and the powdered sugar. Beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy without lumps.
- Assemble Cake: Pour the cream cheese topping evenly over the pressed base layer in the baking pan. Spread it carefully to cover the entire surface.
- Bake: Place the pan in the oven and bake for about 35 minutes. The edges should turn lightly golden, and when a toothpick is inserted in the center, it should come out mostly clean but with a slightly gooey texture in the middle.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, cut into squares and serve.
Notes
- Ensure cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing.
- Press the base layer firmly and evenly for a uniform crust.
- Don’t overbake; the gooey center is what makes this cake special.
- For a richer flavor, use real vanilla extract, not imitation.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
