Ingredients
Meat & Dairy
- 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
- 1 Small Onion (finely diced)
- 10 Ounces Spicy Italian Sausage
- 8 Ounces Cream Cheese (softened)
- 3/4 Cup Sour Cream
- 1 Cup Mozzarella Cheese (shredded)
- 1 Cup Parmesan Cheese (freshly grated)
- 3 Cloves Garlic (mashed)
Seasonings & Vegetables
- 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
- 1/4 Teaspoon Sea Salt
- 1/2 Cup Sun-Dried Tomatoes (packed in oil, drained, and chopped)
- 2 Cups Fresh Spinach
Instructions
- Heat the Skillet. Add the olive oil to a 10-12 inch cast iron skillet or oven-safe pan and heat it on the stove over medium-high heat until hot.
- Sauté the Onion and Sausage. Add the finely diced onion to the hot skillet and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes almost translucent. Then add the spicy Italian sausage and use a spatula to break it into small pieces, cooking until fully cooked through.
- Remove From Heat. Take the skillet off the stove and set it aside temporarily.
- Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the dip.
- Soften the Cream Cheese. Soften the cream cheese by either leaving it at room temperature until it softens or microwaving it in a microwave-safe bowl for about 20 seconds.
- Mix the Cheese and Ingredients. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, grated parmesan, mashed garlic, Italian seasoning, sea salt, chopped sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach, and the cooked sausage and onion mixture. Stir well to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
- Spread Out the Dip. Transfer the combined mixture back into the skillet and spread it evenly with the back of a spoon or spatula.
- Bake the Dip. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-22 minutes, or until the dip is completely heated through and the cheese on top is melted and bubbly.
- Serve and Enjoy. Remove the skillet from the oven and serve the dip immediately with your favorite sliced baguette, chips, or crackers for dipping.
Notes
- Using a cast iron or oven-safe skillet is important to allow stovetop cooking followed by baking in the oven.
- Softening the cream cheese well ensures a smooth, creamy dip consistency.
- For extra heat, consider adding red pepper flakes when sautéing the sausage.
- This dip pairs well with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, or crispy crackers.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
