Description

Magic Cookie Bars are a delicious, easy-to-make dessert featuring a crunchy graham cracker crust topped with sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, chopped pecans, and shredded coconut. Baked until golden brown, these bars offer a perfect combination of textures and flavors, making them a popular treat for parties and gatherings.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 1½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Toppings

  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or grease it well to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Crust: In a medium bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter until the mixture is well combined. Press this crumb mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create the base for your bars.
  3. Add Sweetened Condensed Milk: Pour the entire can of sweetened condensed milk evenly over the graham cracker crust, ensuring full coverage.
  4. Layer Toppings: Sprinkle the semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips evenly over the condensed milk layer. Then add the chopped pecans and shredded coconut on top.
  5. Press Toppings Gently: Using a fork, gently press down the toppings to help them adhere to the condensed milk layer and compact the overall mixture slightly.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the coconut flakes start to turn golden brown around the edges.
  7. Cool and Cut: Remove the dish from the oven and allow the bars to cool completely to set properly. Once cooled, cut into small squares and serve.

Notes

  • You can use either sweetened or unsweetened shredded coconut based on your preference.
  • Press the crust and toppings firmly to ensure the bars hold together when cut.
  • Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for extended freshness.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or substitute with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower seeds.
  • Using parchment paper makes it easier to remove the bars from the pan for cutting.
