Description
This simple and healthy date paste recipe is a natural sugar substitute made by blending soaked dates with hot water. It’s perfect for sweetening baked goods, smoothies, or sauces without refined sugars.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 tightly packed cup dates, pitted (about 5 oz or 150g)
- ¾ cup hot, recently boiled water
Instructions
- Soak Dates: Add the pitted dates to a bowl and cover them with hot, recently boiled water. Let them soak for 10 minutes to soften the dates, making them easier to blend.
- Prepare for Blending: Transfer the soaked dates along with the soaking water into a high-speed blender. If your blender’s instructions recommend against blending hot liquids, allow the mixture to cool to a warm temperature before blending.
- Blend Until Smooth: Blend on high speed for about one minute. Start the blender at a low speed and quickly ramp up to high to ensure the dates break down efficiently and don’t get stuck. Periodically stop and scrape down the sides of the blender jar as needed.
- Store the Date Paste: Once the mixture becomes a smooth, thick paste, pour it into a clean glass jar with a lid. Refrigerate the paste until you’re ready to use it as a natural sweetener in your recipes.
Notes
- Use Medjool dates for the best natural sweetness and texture.
- If you prefer a thinner paste, add a little more warm water during blending.
- Store the date paste in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.
- This paste can replace sugar on a 1:1 basis in recipes.
- Make sure to remove pits from dates completely before blending.
