Description

These Honey Mustard Pretzel Pieces are a deliciously addictive snack featuring crunchy pretzels coated in a flavorful honey mustard glaze. Perfect for sharing or keeping all to yourself, they offer a sweet and tangy kick enhanced by the subtle warmth of ground mustard and onion powder. Baked low and slow to achieve maximum crispness, they’re an irresistible treat for snack time or parties.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 12–16 ounces (340–454g) hard pretzels (about 1 bag, such as sourdough-style)
  • 1/2 cup (120g/ml) oil (vegetable or olive)
  • 3 Tablespoons (63g) honey (try hot honey for a bit of a kick!)
  • 1 Tablespoon packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons (32g) Dijon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons ground mustard
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional, for topping: coarse or flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside to prepare for the pretzels.
  2. Make the honey mustard glaze: In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together the oil, honey, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, ground mustard, onion powder, and salt until the mixture is emulsified and smooth.
  3. Coat the pretzels: Break the pretzels into pieces and place them in a large zipped-top bag or large bowl. Pour the honey mustard mixture over the pretzels, then shake or stir thoroughly so every piece is well coated with the glaze.
  4. Arrange pretzels to bake: Spread the coated pretzels evenly onto the prepared baking sheet(s). If they don’t fit in a single layer, use two baking sheets lined with parchment or silicone mats. Sprinkle with coarse or flaky sea salt if desired for extra flavor.
  5. Bake and stir: Bake the pretzels for 50 to 60 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even coating and crisping without burning.
  6. Cool and store: Remove the pretzels from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet(s). Store fully cooled pretzel pieces in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1–2 weeks. If they soften over time, warm them in a 300°F oven for a few minutes to restore their crispness.

Notes

  • Use hot honey instead of regular honey for a spicy twist.
  • Breaking the pretzels into bite-sized pieces ensures even coating and easier snacking.
  • Stirring every 15 minutes during baking prevents burning and promotes even crisping.
  • Store in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness.
  • Re-crisp pretzels by warming briefly in a moderate oven if they soften over time.
