Ingredients
Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (½ a packet)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup warm water (110℉)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Garlic Butter Topping
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Grated parmesan cheese (to taste)
- Italian seasoning or oregano (to taste)
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In the bowl of a stand mixer, whisk together the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt until well combined.
- Add Wet Ingredients and Knead: Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Using a dough hook attachment, mix for 5 to 7 minutes until the dough is fairly smooth. Alternatively, knead by hand. If the dough feels too dry, gradually add up to 1/4 cup more water.
- First Rise: Transfer the kneaded dough into a greased bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot to rise for 30-45 minutes, or until the dough doubles in size. A good warm spot is inside a turned-off oven with the oven light on.
- Shape Breadsticks and Second Rise: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 9-inch long breadstick and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover loosely and let them rise again for about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and prepare the garlic butter topping by mixing melted butter, garlic powder, salt, parmesan, and Italian seasoning in a small bowl.
- Bake and Finish: Bake the breadsticks in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly browned. As soon as they come out of the oven and are still hot, brush the garlic butter mixture generously over them. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a stronger garlic flavor, add freshly minced garlic to the butter topping.
- You can substitute Italian seasoning with dried oregano or basil as preferred.
- These breadsticks are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container and reheated.
- If you don’t have a stand mixer, knead the dough by hand on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.
- Adding grated parmesan on top before baking will create a golden cheesy crust.
