Description

This Herbed Cheese Ball is a flavorful and elegant appetizer perfect for any party or gathering. Cream cheese combined with sharp white cheddar and fresh herbs creates a rich, savory mixture that is rolled into a ball and coated with vibrant chopped parsley, oregano, and chives. Chilled to firm up, it pairs beautifully with crackers or fresh vegetables for an easy yet impressive starter.

Ingredients

Cheese Ball Mixture

  • 8 oz block cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup white cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 sprigs fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 2 sprigs fresh oregano, chopped
  • 7-8 sprigs fresh chives, chopped

Coating

  • 1/3 cup chopped Italian parsley
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh oregano, chopped
  • 2-3 sprigs fresh chives, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the herbs: Finely chop the fresh rosemary, oregano, and chives so they integrate well into the cheese mixture and provide an even herb flavor throughout.
  2. Mix the cheese and herbs: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, grated white cheddar, salt, and the chopped rosemary, oregano, and chives. Use a spatula or spoon to thoroughly mix all ingredients until smooth and well blended.
  3. Form the cheese ball: Using your hands, shape the cheese mixture into a compact ball, ensuring it holds together firmly.
  4. Coat with herbs: Spread the chopped Italian parsley, oregano, and chives onto a flat surface or plate. Gently roll the cheese ball over the chopped herbs, pressing lightly to coat the entire surface evenly.
  5. Chill: Wrap the coated cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. This step allows the flavors to meld and the cheese ball to firm up for easy slicing and serving.
  6. Serve: Remove from the refrigerator, unwrap, and serve the herbed cheese ball with crackers or fresh vegetables as an appetizer.

Notes

  • Be sure to bring the cream cheese to room temperature for easier mixing.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of black pepper or garlic powder to the cheese mixture.
  • The cheese ball can be made a day ahead to deepen the flavors.
  • Serve the cheese ball chilled but let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving for best texture.
  • Use fresh herbs for optimal flavor; dried herbs will not provide the same bright taste.
