Description
A quick and healthy honey garlic shrimp recipe that combines sweet and savory flavors with a fresh ginger kick. Perfect for a nutritious weeknight dinner, this dish is ready in just 20 minutes and pairs wonderfully with brown rice and vegetables.
Ingredients
Marinade
- 1/3 cup Aunt Sue’s Raw & Unfiltered Honey
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium) or Tamari (for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger (optional)
Main
- 1 lb medium uncooked shrimp, peeled & deveined
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- Optional garnish: chopped green onion
- Optional garnish: red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Prepare Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and fresh ginger if using, to create a flavorful marinade base.
- Marinate Shrimp: Place the peeled and deveined shrimp in a large resealable bag or container. Pour the marinade over the shrimp, seal, and gently shake or stir to coat all shrimp evenly. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, up to 12 hours to enhance flavor.
- Cook Sides: While the shrimp marinates, prepare your chosen side dishes such as steamed vegetables and brown rice to save time and complete your meal.
- Cook Shrimp: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp along with the marinade to the skillet. Cook shrimp on one side until they turn pink, about 45 seconds. Flip and cook for another minute until fully cooked and opaque.
- Serve: Plate the shrimp and spoon the marinade sauce on top. Garnish with chopped green onion and red pepper flakes if desired. Serve alongside brown rice and your preferred vegetables for a balanced meal.
Notes
- Do not overcook the shrimp as they become rubbery quickly; shrimp cook very fast once in the pan.
- Marinating longer than 15 minutes allows the shrimp to absorb more flavors but avoid exceeding 12 hours to prevent texture changes.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute soy sauce with tamari.
- Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to suit your heat preference.
- This recipe pairs well with steamed broccoli, roasted asparagus, or stir-fried vegetables.
