Description

These Ham-And-Swiss Sliders are a delicious and easy appetizer featuring Hawaiian sweet rolls filled with tender deli ham and Swiss cheese, topped with a flavorful buttery poppy seed sauce. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, they bake to golden perfection with melted cheese and a savory crumb topping.

Ingredients

Slider Ingredients

  • 1 (12-oz.) package Hawaiian sweet rolls (such as King’s Hawaiian)
  • 3/4 lb. thinly sliced deli ham
  • 3/4 lb. thinly sliced Swiss cheese
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise

Butter Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (4 oz.) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. poppy seeds
  • 1 Tbsp. dried minced onion
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the sliders.
  2. Add Mayo to Rolls: Slice the Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally. Spread the mayonnaise evenly on the bottom halves to add moisture and flavor.
  3. Add Ham and Cheese: Layer thinly sliced deli ham and Swiss cheese evenly over the mayonnaise-spread bottom halves of the rolls.
  4. Assemble Sliders: Place the top halves of the rolls back on to create mini sandwiches.
  5. Arrange Sandwiches in Baking Dish: Place the assembled sliders close together in a shallow baking dish, fitting snugly but without squashing.
  6. Make Butter Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted unsalted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, dried minced onion, and Worcestershire sauce until fully combined.
  7. Pour Sauce and Rest: Pour the prepared butter sauce evenly over the whole slider sandwiches. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and let it rest for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to soak in.
  8. Bake Sliders: Place the covered baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes until the Swiss cheese melts perfectly.
  9. Brown Tops: Remove the aluminum foil carefully, then continue baking for an additional 5 minutes to brown the tops of the rolls for a golden, slightly crisp finish.
  10. Serve Warm: Remove the sliders from the oven and serve immediately while warm and melty for the best taste experience.

Notes

  • For a different flavor profile, swap Swiss cheese with cheddar or provolone.
  • Make sure to cover the dish before baking to keep the sliders moist during the initial baking phase.
  • Resting the sliders with the sauce before baking helps the bread absorb the buttery goodness.
  • These sliders can be made ahead and reheated in the oven covered with foil to maintain moisture.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute butter with dairy-free margarine and cheese with a suitable plant-based alternative.
