Description

This delicious grilled salmon recipe features tender and flavorful salmon fillets marinated in a zesty blend of lemon juice, soy sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, and garlic. Perfectly grilled to achieve beautiful marks and a flaky texture, this meal is ideal for a healthy, quick dinner with a savory twist.

Ingredients

Salmon

  • 1 – 1 ½ lbs salmon (4 fillets, each 4-6 oz, BBQ cut)
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Marinade

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce (or tamari or coconut aminos)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 cloves garlic (crushed or minced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry using paper towels to remove excess moisture. Sprinkle sea salt and black pepper evenly over both sides of the salmon to season it.
  2. Make the marinade: In a gallon-sized zip lock bag, combine lemon juice, low sodium soy sauce, brown sugar or honey, Dijon mustard, and crushed garlic cloves. Seal the bag and mix thoroughly to create a consistent marinade.
  3. Marinate the salmon: Place the seasoned salmon fillets into the marinade bag. Seal the bag tightly and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours, allowing the flavors to deeply penetrate the fish.
  4. Preheat the grill: When ready to cook, preheat your grill to medium heat. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking and to help achieve those perfect grill marks.
  5. Grill the salmon: Remove the salmon from the marinade, discarding the remaining marinade. Place the fillets on the grill with the skinless side down first. Grill just long enough to get beautiful grill marks, then flip so the skin side is down. Continue cooking for 8-10 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove the salmon from the grill and serve immediately while warm. Enjoy your flavorful grilled salmon with your choice of side dishes.

Notes

  • Marinating time can be adjusted, but avoid exceeding 4 hours to prevent the acid from breaking down the fish too much.
  • Use a clean, well-oiled grill grate to prevent the fish from sticking and breaking apart.
  • If skin-on fillets are unavailable, grill gently as the fish may cook quickly and become fragile.
  • You can substitute honey for brown sugar for a natural sweetness.
  • To keep the salmon moist, avoid overcooking—look for it to flake easily with a fork.
