Description

These Greek Style Stuffed Florina Peppers are a delightful blend of sweet, creamy feta cheese with fresh herbs and garlic, baked to perfection. Ideal as an appetizer or part of a Mediterranean meze, they offer a flavorful and satisfying vegetarian dish with a touch of honey for extra sweetness.

Ingredients

Peppers

  • 4 fresh Florina red peppers

Filling

  • 200 g feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely grated
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Chili flakes (optional, for heat)

Finishing

  • Olive oil, for drizzling
  • Honey, for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Peppers: Wash the Florina peppers thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, create a “T” shaped incision by slicing down the middle and across the top, forming a flap. Carefully remove all seeds and membranes, keeping the peppers intact.
  2. Make the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine crumbled feta, cream cheese, grated garlic, olive oil, dried oregano, chopped parsley, and freshly ground black pepper. Add chili flakes if desired. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  3. Stuff the Peppers: Spoon the cheese mixture generously into each pepper cavity. Fold the flap back over to close the pepper securely.
  4. Arrange and Bake: Place stuffed peppers on a lightly oiled baking tray, spacing evenly. Drizzle a little olive oil over the tops. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (430°F) for about 25 minutes, until peppers are tender, slightly blistered, and filling is warm.
  5. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm as an appetizer or part of a Greek meze. Optionally, drizzle with honey for a sweet finish.

Notes

  • Florina peppers can be substituted with other sweet red peppers if unavailable.
  • Chili flakes can be added to the filling for a spicy kick.
  • Use good quality feta and fresh herbs for the best flavor.
  • The honey drizzle is optional but adds a lovely contrast to the savory filling.
  • Ensure the peppers remain intact when removing seeds to hold the filling well during baking.
