Description
Crispy and golden fried wonton strips perfect as a crunchy snack or a tasty garnish for salads and soups. These easy-to-make strips are fried quickly in hot oil until perfectly crisp and lightly salted for a delicious treat.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 (14 oz) package wonton wrappers
- 6 cups vegetable oil (approximately 48 oz bottle)
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Heat the oil: Pour vegetable oil into a pot and heat over medium heat until it reaches 355°F to 360°F, using a deep-fry thermometer to monitor the temperature precisely.
- Prepare wonton wrappers: Separate the stack of wonton wrappers into six smaller stacks to manage cutting more easily.
- Cut into strips: Slice each stack into strips about 2/3-inch wide to create long, even wonton strips.
- Prepare draining area: Line an 18 by 13-inch rimmed baking sheet with paper towels to absorb excess oil from the fried wonton strips.
- Fry the strips: Working with roughly one-sixth of the wonton strips at a time, carefully separate and drop them into the preheated oil. Fry for 30 to 60 seconds or until golden brown, using a frying spider to help break them apart and turn if necessary.
- Drain the strips: Use a large spider strainer to remove the fried strips from the oil, gently tapping the strainer against the pot edge to let excess oil drip back into the pot.
- Season and cool: Transfer the fried wonton strips to the paper towels to drain, then season lightly with salt immediately while still warm so the salt sticks. Repeat frying in batches until all strips are cooked.
- Store: Allow the fried wonton strips to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container for up to 4 days to maintain crispness.
Notes
- Maintain the oil temperature between 355°F and 360°F for optimal crispiness.
- Work in small batches to prevent overcrowding and to ensure even frying.
- Season with salt immediately after frying for better adherence.
- Use a frying spider or slotted spoon to safely handle hot strips in the oil.
- Store in an airtight container to keep strips fresh and crispy for several days.
