Description

This fresh and vibrant ceviche recipe features tender chunks of white fish marinated in a zesty citrus blend with crisp vegetables and creamy avocado, perfect for a light appetizer or refreshing meal.

Ingredients

Seafood

  • 1 lb fresh white fish, chopped into bite-size pieces (halibut recommended)

Marinade

  • ⅓ cup lime juice
  • ⅓ cup lemon juice

Vegetables & Herbs

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup cucumber, diced
  • ½ cup red onion, diced
  • ¼ cup cilantro, chopped

Other Ingredients

  • 1 avocado, diced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the chopped fish, lime juice, lemon juice, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, jalapeño, salt, and cracked black pepper into a large mixing bowl, ensuring all ingredients are well distributed.
  2. Marinate: Toss the mixture gently to combine, then cover the bowl and refrigerate for 20 to 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours if preferred, allowing the fish to cure and flavors to meld.
  3. Add Avocado: After marinating, gently fold in the diced avocado to maintain its texture and flavor without breaking it down too much.
  4. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the ceviche and add extra salt if needed. If there is excess liquid, carefully drain it off to prevent sogginess.
  5. Serve: Serve chilled with tortilla chips or on its own as a light, refreshing dish.

Notes

  • Use very fresh fish for the best flavor and safety.
  • Marinating time can be adjusted depending on desired texture; longer marinating results in firmer fish.
  • Removing the jalapeño seeds reduces heat but you may adjust according to spice preference.
  • If you prefer, drain excess marinade after marinating to avoid watering down the dish.
  • Serve immediately after adding avocado to keep it fresh and vibrant.
