Description

These French Toast Sugar Cookies taste like a delightful blend of classic french toast and brown sugar cinnamon Pop-Tarts, making them a delicious treat perfect for family and friends. Soft, cinnamon-spiced sugar cookies topped with a creamy maple frosting, they are an irresistible dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1/2 cup butter (slightly softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (plus more as needed)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tsp maple extract
  • 2-4 Tbsp milk (or to desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 C) to prepare for baking the cookies.
  2. Cream Butter and Sugar: Using a mixer, cream together the slightly softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Then add the egg and beat until well combined.
  3. Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Sift together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon). Alternately add the sifted dry ingredients and the milk to the butter mixture while mixing until everything is incorporated. Add the vanilla extract last and stir until smooth.
  4. Chill Dough and Roll Out: Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Then, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness, adding more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  5. Cut and Bake: Cut the rolled dough into approximately 2-inch squares. Arrange cookies on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees F for 10-11 minutes, watching carefully to avoid overbaking.
  6. Make Frosting: Cream the softened butter with 1 cup of powdered sugar. Gradually add the remaining powdered sugar, mixing well. Stir in maple extract (use around 3 tsp) and milk until you reach a thick, spreadable consistency.
  7. Frost and Serve: Once cookies have cooled, spread the maple frosting evenly on top. Optionally sprinkle with cinnamon and enjoy! Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
