Description

These French Onion Roast Beef Sliders combine sweet caramelized onions, tender roast beef, melty provolone, and a luscious French onion sour cream spread on Hawaiian sweet rolls. With a flavorful garlic-parsley butter topping and a savory homemade au jus for dipping, these sliders are perfect for parties or a comforting meal in just 35 minutes.

Ingredients

For the Sliders

  • 1 large yellow onion (thinly sliced)
  • 5 tablespoons butter (divided)
  • ¼ teaspoon sugar
  • 12 Hawaiian sweet roll slider buns
  • ½ cup French onion sour cream dip
  • 1 pound deli roast beef
  • 10 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon parsley (finely chopped)

For the Au Jus

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup red wine
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the assembled sliders.
  2. Caramelize Onions: Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon sugar. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until onions become golden and caramelized. Reduce heat if onions start to brown too quickly.
  3. Assemble Sliders: Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half lengthwise, keeping each slider intact. Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread French onion sour cream dip evenly on the bottom halves, then layer with roast beef, provolone cheese, and the caramelized onions. Place the top halves back on.
  4. Prepare Garlic-Butter Topping: Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and stir in minced garlic and finely chopped parsley. Brush this mixture generously over the top of the buns.
  5. Bake Sliders: Bake the sliders in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes until the cheese melts and the tops lightly brown. If the buns begin to brown too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
  6. Make Au Jus: While baking, combine beef broth, red wine, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce in a small pot. Simmer on low heat for 10 minutes to develop a rich dipping sauce.
  7. Serve: Remove sliders from oven and serve hot with the warm au jus on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Use Hawaiian rolls for their signature soft, sweet flavor that balances the savory ingredients.
  • Caramelizing onions properly enhances the natural sweetness and prevents bitterness.
  • If you prefer a non-alcoholic option, substitute red wine in the au jus with additional beef broth or grape juice.
  • Leftover au jus can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne to the garlic butter topping.
