Description
French Dip Tortilla Roll Ups are a quick and flavorful twist on the classic French Dip Sandwich, wrapped in a soft tortilla and baked until golden. Perfect for an easy weeknight dinner, these roll ups combine roast beef, provolone cheese, and crispy French fried onions served with a warm, savory dipping sauce made from beef consommé and seasonings.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 4 – 12-inch flour tortillas
- 4 slices Provolone cheese (about 5 ounces), torn into pieces
- 1/2 lb deli sliced roast beef
- 3/4 cup French fried onions
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Dipping Sauce
- 1 can (10.5 oz) beef consommé
- 3/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF to prepare for baking the roll ups.
- Assemble Tortillas: Lay out the four tortillas on a clean surface. Evenly tear the provolone into smaller pieces and distribute over each tortilla. Next, add the sliced roast beef on top of the cheese, then sprinkle the French fried onions evenly over the meat.
- Roll Up Tortillas: Working with one tortilla at a time, fold the sides inwards and tightly roll it into a cylinder shape. Use a small amount of olive oil brushed on the edge to help seal the roll. Place each roll seam-side down on a baking sheet.
- Brush with Olive Oil: Brush the remaining olive oil over the tops of the rolled tortillas to help them brown nicely while baking.
- Bake Roll Ups: Bake the roll ups in the preheated oven for approximately 10 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Prepare Dipping Sauce: While the roll ups bake, combine beef consommé, water, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, onion powder, and garlic powder in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is warmed through.
- Serve: Remove the roll ups from the oven and cut each in half. Serve warm with the hot dipping sauce on the side.
Notes
- Nutrition information is an estimate and can vary based on brands and ingredient choices.
- For a crispier roll up, bake a few extra minutes as needed but watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Substitute beef consommé with beef broth if preferred, though consommé gives richer flavor.
- Use sharp provolone for more pronounced cheese flavor.
- These roll ups reheat well in the oven or air fryer for a quick meal later.
