Description

This Easy Crackers Recipe is a simple, quick homemade snack perfect for serving with dips or cheese. Made with basic pantry ingredients like flour, olive oil, and seasonings, these crackers are rolled thin and baked until crispy and golden. You can customize the flavor with your favorite herbs or spices, making them both versatile and delicious.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups All-purpose flour (Can substitute whole wheat or gluten-free blend)
  • ½ tsp Salt (Adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp Baking powder (For crispness)
  • 1 tbsp Seasonings (Optional: rosemary, garlic powder, or herbs)

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Olive oil (Or melted butter for richer flavor)
  • 68 tbsp Cold water (Add gradually just enough to form dough)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the crackers.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and any optional seasonings such as rosemary or garlic powder.
  3. Add Olive Oil: Pour in the olive oil (or melted butter if using) and mix into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Water: Gradually add cold water, starting with 6 tablespoons, mixing gently until the dough starts to form. Add more water as needed but keep the dough firm, not sticky.
  5. Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for about 30 seconds just to bring it together.
  6. Roll Out Dough: Divide the dough into portions for easier handling and roll each portion out very thinly, about 1/16 inch thickness.
  7. Cut Crackers: Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut the rolled dough into desired cracker shapes like squares or rectangles.
  8. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the cut crackers on parchment paper-lined baking sheets ensuring they don’t overlap.
  9. Prepare for Baking: Prick each cracker lightly with a fork to prevent puffing during baking. Optionally, brush lightly with oil or water and sprinkle additional toppings if desired.
  10. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the crackers are golden brown and crisp.
  11. Cool: Remove from the oven and allow the crackers to cool completely on the baking sheets to ensure maximum crispness.

Notes

  • For gluten-free crackers, use a gluten-free flour blend as a 1:1 substitute for all-purpose flour.
  • Adjust seasoning amounts to your taste preference or try different herbs like thyme or oregano for variety.
  • Ensure the dough is rolled very thin to get crispy crackers; thicker dough results in softer crackers.
  • Store cooled crackers in an airtight container to maintain crispness for up to one week.
  • You can add toppings like sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or sea salt before baking for extra flavor and texture.
