Description
A comforting and classic Tuna Casserole made with egg noodles, creamy celery soup, cheddar cheese, and tender tuna. This easy-to-make baked dish combines simple pantry ingredients into a delicious, hearty meal perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 8 ounces egg noodles
- 1 (10 1/4 ounce) can cream of celery soup
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 3/4 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese, divided
- 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 4 ounces mushrooms, drained (optional)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 (7 ounce) can tuna, with juice
Instructions
- Cook the noodles: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the egg noodles and cook until al dente, about 7-8 minutes. Drain well and set aside to prevent sogginess.
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 325°F (163°C) to prepare for baking the casserole later.
- Combine ingredients: In a large casserole dish, mix together the cream of celery soup, mayonnaise, evaporated milk, 1/2 cup of the grated cheddar cheese, chopped celery, finely chopped onion, drained mushrooms (if using), black pepper, cooked noodles, and tuna with its juice. Stir until everything is evenly incorporated.
- Add cheese topping: Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup of grated cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole mixture for a cheesy crust.
- Bake the casserole: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and slightly golden, and the casserole is heated through.
- Serve hot: Remove from the oven and serve the tuna casserole hot as a satisfying main dish.
Notes
- You can omit mushrooms if desired or substitute with peas for added color and texture.
- Make sure to drain the noodles well to avoid a watery casserole.
- For a lighter version, use low-fat mayonnaise and reduced-fat cheese.
- This casserole can be assembled ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
