Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 8 ounces (226g) full-fat brick cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1/4 cup (60g) mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup (120g) sour cream
Cheese & Seasonings
- 1 and 1/4 cups (155g) shredded cheddar cheese, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 and 3/4 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 dashes of hot sauce (optional, or to taste)
Seafood
- 1 pound fresh lump crab meat
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (191°C) to prepare for baking the crab dip.
- Beat Cream Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, use a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment to beat the softened cream cheese on medium-high speed until it becomes smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.
- Combine Ingredients: Add mayonnaise, sour cream, 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, ground mustard, lemon juice, Old Bay seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce if using. Beat on medium-high speed until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Carefully fold in the lump crab meat with a spoon or silicone spatula to maintain its texture. Taste and adjust hot sauce if desired.
- Prepare for Baking: Transfer the crab mixture into a 9-inch (or slightly larger) baking pan, pie dish, or oven-safe skillet. Evenly sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the mixture.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot, bubbly, and golden around the edges.
- Serve Warm: Remove from oven and serve the crab dip warm for best flavor and texture.
- Store Leftovers: Cover any leftovers and store them in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat using the microwave or by placing in a 350°F (177°C) oven until warmed through.
Notes
- Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easier mixing and a smoother texture.
- Fresh lump crab meat delivers the best flavor; however, high-quality canned crab meat can be used as a substitute.
- Adjust Old Bay seasoning and hot sauce according to your taste preference for spice.
- This dip can be served with crackers, toasted bread, or vegetable sticks.
- Leftover dip can be reheated gently to avoid curdling or drying out.
