Description

This Cinnamon Roll Phyllo Dough Dessert is a delightful twist on traditional cinnamon rolls, using delicate layers of phyllo dough brushed with a buttery cinnamon-sugar mixture, rolled into perfect buns, baked until golden and crispy, then topped with a smooth cream cheese glaze. Ready in just 40 minutes, this dessert offers a flaky, sweet, and creamy treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Phyllo Dough Cinnamon Rolls

  • 1 box Athens Foods Phyllo Dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon

Cream Cheese Glaze

  • 2 tsp cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Skillet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease an 8-inch skillet with baking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Phyllo Dough: Carefully remove the phyllo dough from the package, gently unroll it, and cover it with a damp paper towel to prevent it from drying out while you work.
  3. Make Cinnamon Butter Mixture: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the 1/2 cup unsalted butter combined with 3/4 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Stir until smooth and fragrant.
  4. Layer and Brush Phyllo Sheets: Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface, then brush it generously with the cinnamon butter mixture. Repeat this brushing process over 4 more sheets, stacking them together for a total of 5 brushed phyllo sheets.
  5. Form Cinnamon Roll Shape: Roll the layered phyllo sheets into a long log, then carefully coil the log into itself to form the shape of a cinnamon bun.
  6. Arrange Rolls in Skillet: Place the formed cinnamon roll into the prepared skillet. Repeat this process to create six more rolls, fitting seven total cinnamon rolls snugly into the skillet.
  7. Bake: Bake the cinnamon rolls for 20-25 minutes until the outside is crispy, golden, and fragrant.
  8. Prepare Cream Cheese Glaze: While the rolls bake, combine 2 teaspoons cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon milk in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly until a smooth glaze forms.
  9. Drizzle and Serve: Once the cinnamon rolls are baked and slightly cooled, drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the buns. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Ensure the phyllo dough sheets remain covered with a damp towel at all times to prevent drying out and tearing.
  • You can substitute the brown sugar with coconut sugar for a different flavor profile.
  • Use unsalted butter to better control the salt level in the dessert.
  • For a larger batch, multiply the ingredients accordingly and bake in multiple skillets or pans.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container and warm before serving to maintain crispness.
