Description
Chicken Alfredo Sloppy Joes combine the savory flavors of ground chicken with a homemade creamy Alfredo sauce, creating a delicious and easy-to-make dinner that blends two classic dishes into one hearty meal.
Ingredients
Ground Chicken Sloppy Joes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small sweet onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
- 1 pound ground chicken
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper (or less to taste)
Alfredo Sauce
- 4 tablespoons butter (salted)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ¾ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
For Serving
- Sliced Provolone or Mozzarella Cheese
- Buns
Instructions
- Sauté the onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil and diced sweet onion. Cook until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until aromatic.
- Cook the ground chicken: Add the ground chicken, Italian seasoning, kosher salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Cook while crumbling the chicken until it’s browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess liquid or grease from the pan.
- Prepare Alfredo sauce: In a separate small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the heavy cream, grated Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder. Stir constantly and cook for 3-5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Combine chicken and sauce: Pour the Alfredo sauce over the cooked ground chicken in the skillet. Stir thoroughly to evenly coat the chicken with the sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce is thickened.
- Assemble the sloppy joes: Spoon the creamy chicken Alfredo mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns. Add a slice of provolone or mozzarella cheese on top, if desired.
- Toast the buns (optional): For extra flavor and texture, separate the buns and place them on a cookie sheet. Spread butter or spray with cooking spray on each side and broil for a few minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning. After broiling, place a slice of cheese on the top buns and broil again for 30 seconds or less until cheese melts.
Notes
- Serving Size: For larger sloppy joes with more filling, expect to get about 4 servings. Nutrition information is for the sloppy joe mixture only and does not include bun or cheese.
- Parmesan Cheese: Fresh wedge Parmesan cheese is preferred for smoother melting, but shelf-stable or refrigerated shredded Parmesan can be used. Shelf-stable Parmesan is saltier, so consider using unsalted butter if you choose this option.
