Description

Cheesy Texas Trash Dip is a hearty, flavorful party dip perfect for gatherings, combining creamy cheese, spicy taco seasoning, refried beans, and green chiles baked to bubbly perfection. This crowd-pleaser is delicious served warm with tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese (the kind sold in a foil-wrapped brick)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 32 ounces refried beans (two 16 ounce cans)
  • 7 ounces canned chopped green chiles, drained
  • 1 package McCormick® Taco Seasoning Mix

Cheese

  • 4 cups shredded Mexican cheese blend, divided

Garnishes

  • Chopped green onion, for serving
  • Sliced black olives, for serving
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cheese Mixture: Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a large microwave-safe bowl, microwave the cream cheese and sour cream on HIGH for 1 minute until the cream cheese is softened. Remove from the microwave and whisk until smooth to create a creamy base.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Add the refried beans, drained chopped green chiles, taco seasoning mix, and 2 cups of the shredded Mexican cheese blend to the whipped cream cheese mixture. Mix thoroughly to integrate all ingredients evenly.
  3. Assemble in Baking Dish: Spray a 13×9-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Spread the bean and cheese mixture evenly across the bottom of the dish. Sprinkle the remaining 2 cups of shredded cheese evenly on top to ensure a cheesy crust.
  4. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is fully melted and slightly bubbly.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped green onions and sliced black olives. Serve the dip warm with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • If you prefer a spicier dip, add some chopped jalapeños or hot sauce to the bean mixture before baking.
  • This dip can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated unbaked; just increase baking time slightly when ready to serve.
  • For a lighter option, use reduced-fat sour cream and cheese blends.
  • Ensure beans are warm or at room temperature to help the dip heat evenly.
  • The dip pairs wonderfully with a variety of chips, including corn tortilla chips or even pita chips.
