Description

These Cheesy Breadsticks are made from pizza dough and baked to golden perfection. Featuring a buttery garlic and Italian seasoning spread topped with melted mozzarella cheese, they make a delicious appetizer or snack. Serve warm with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 1 lb store-bought or homemade pizza dough

Toppings

  • 2 Tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning blend or dried basil
  • 1 and 3/4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Optional

  • Sprinkle of cornmeal for dusting the pan
  • Marinara or pizza sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare dough: Punch down the risen pizza dough to release the air bubbles and divide it in half. You can use the other half for another pizza or freeze it for later.
  2. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 425°F (218°C) to prepare for baking.
  3. Shape dough: On a lightly floured surface or parchment paper dusted with cornmeal, roll the dough into a thin 9×13-inch rectangle, shaping it as close as possible to this size.
  4. Make seasoning butter and apply: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, garlic powder (or minced garlic), and Italian seasoning. Brush this mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  5. Add cheese: Generously cover the dough with shredded mozzarella cheese ensuring it is spread evenly.
  6. Bake: Place the prepared dough in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. For extra browning on top, broil for the last minute if desired.
  7. Slice and serve: Cut the baked breadstick rectangle into individual sticks. Serve them warm plain or with marinara or pizza sauce for dipping.
  8. Store leftovers: Cover leftover breadsticks tightly and refrigerate for up to one week. Baked breadsticks can also be frozen for up to 3 months and reheated before serving.

Notes

  • You can use either store-bought or homemade pizza dough based on convenience.
  • Adjust garlic quantity according to preference by using garlic powder or fresh minced garlic.
  • Sprinkling cornmeal on the baking surface helps prevent sticking and adds a subtle texture.
  • Broiling the breadsticks for a short time after baking provides a nicely browned and bubbly cheese topping.
  • Leftover breadsticks freeze well and can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
