Description
These Cheeseburger Sliders are a quick and easy 30-minute recipe perfect for gatherings or a fun family meal. Juicy seasoned ground beef is combined with mayo and layered with cheddar cheese inside soft dinner rolls, then baked to golden perfection with a buttery, sesame seed topping.
Ingredients
For the Beef Mixture
- 2 lb lean ground beef (90/10 or 93/7 fat content)
- 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 large yellow onion, finely diced
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
For the Sliders
- 8 slices medium cheddar cheese
- 6 oz medium cheddar, shredded (or more sliced cheese)
- 24 dinner rolls (or 2 packs of 12 dinner rolls)
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted (plus more for greasing the baking sheet)
- 1 Tbsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter the bottom of a rimmed baking sheet to prevent sticking and add flavor.
- Cook the beef and onions: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add 1/2 tablespoon olive oil, then the diced onion. Add the ground beef and break it up with a spatula. Season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Sauté until the beef is just cooked through, then remove from heat.
- Drain excess fat and mix in mayo: Tilt the skillet to spoon off and discard any excess fat. Stir the 1/4 cup mayonnaise into the cooked beef mixture until evenly combined.
- Assemble the sliders: Cut the dinner rolls in half. Place the bottom halves on the buttered baking sheet, then layer with sliced cheddar cheese. Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over the cheese, smoothing the edges with the back of a spatula. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar over the beef layer.
- Add tops and prepare for baking: Place the top halves of the buns, cut side down, over the assembled sliders. Brush the tops with the melted butter and immediately sprinkle with sesame seeds for a toasty, flavorful crust.
- Bake to finish: Bake the assembled sliders in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the buns turn golden brown. Remove from oven and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute or add your favorite cheese varieties such as American or pepper jack for different flavor profiles.
- Using mayo in the beef adds juiciness and richness, but you can omit it if preferred.
- For easier slicing, chill the beef mixture slightly before assembling.
- Butter the baking sheet well to ensure the buns crisp nicely and don’t stick.
- Make sure to watch the sliders during baking to prevent the tops from burning.
- These sliders freeze well; assemble all ingredients but bake just before serving for freshness.
