Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh or frozen broccoli florets
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ cup grated cheddar cheese (or grated parmesan cheese)
- ⅔ cup almond or oat flour
- 1 Tablespoon Italian seasoning
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Prepare a large baking sheet by lightly greasing it with a thin layer of oil or lining it with parchment paper, then set it aside.
- Steam Broccoli: Steam the broccoli florets for about 5 minutes until slightly tender. Immediately rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process. Drain thoroughly using towels or a strainer to remove as much moisture as possible.
- Chop Broccoli: Place the drained broccoli in a food processor fitted with an “S” blade and pulse until finely chopped. Alternatively, you can finely chop the broccoli by hand to achieve similar results.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped broccoli with the eggs, onion powder, grated cheese, almond or oat flour, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and sea salt. Stir well until all ingredients are fully incorporated into a uniform mixture.
- Shape Tots: Using a heaping tablespoon or a small cookie scoop, portion out the broccoli mixture. Roll each portion into a small ball and then gently press it into a tot shape. Arrange the formed tots evenly spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake Tots: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the tots for 20 to 25 minutes until they are golden brown on top. Be sure to carefully flip the tots halfway through baking to ensure even crisping on all sides.
- Serve: Remove the broccoli tots from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with ketchup, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce for a tasty snack or side dish.
Notes
- Make sure to drain the broccoli very well after steaming to prevent soggy tots.
- You can substitute cheddar cheese with parmesan for a different flavor profile.
- Using almond or oat flour makes this recipe gluten-free, but feel free to experiment with other gluten-free flours if desired.
- Flipping the tots halfway through baking is essential to achieve crispiness on both sides.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven to retain crispiness.
